Respite

February 12, 2010

As many of you already know, Amy's beautiful mom Kathy passed away at her home last month after a courageous battle with cancer.  In light of this, we are hitting the pause button here at the bakeshop.  We aren't certain what the next step will be, but we will let you know as soon as we do.  Thank you very much for your thoughts, prayers and understanding during this difficult time.

Taking Some Time For Family

December 12, 2009

We have decided to slow things down for a little while, and we will not be taking orders at this time.  Amy's mom, who was recently diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer, is in the hospital.  At first things were not looking so good, but she is doing better and we hope to take her home on December 14.  She is working hard to regain her strength, and the plan is to restart chemotherapy in January.  In light of all of this, Amy plans to stay with her mom in California for awhile.  She is taking some time to help care for her mom and be with family.
We aren't sure when yet, but we do plan to get back to the kitchen soon.  Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and understanding.

Out Of The Bakeshop

December 4, 2009

Due to a family emergency, the Bakeshop is currently closed.  We are answering our email, but may not be able to fill orders at this time.  Please check back soon.  We hope to be back in the kitchen very soon.  Thank you for understanding.

Sample Special Treats at Downtown Shop

August 24, 2009

People with a sweet tooth can find treats from the Itsy Bitsy Bakeshop at the La Belle Maison home store, 320 Liberty St. SE.

Baker Amy Barr runs the bakeshop from her South Salem home but is giving the public a taste of her treats by selling "cake lollies" — small bits of chocolate-covered cake on a stick — for $2.50 each at La Belle Maison.

She plans to have a permanent dessert case in the shop offering a variety of cupcakes and other treats in the future.

Call (503) 385-1003 or go to itsybitsybakeshop.com for more information.

Barr has been in business since May and focuses mainly on special events such as baby showers and parties. Custom orders are available.

She offers free delivery in Salem. Orders usually are complete within 72 hours or less.

Home-made and home-baked

Some of the sweetest smells emanate from a warm oven that houses a baking treat. Salem’s Amy Barr now offers her own fresh cupcakes for sweet tooths wishing to sample a truly home-made dessert.

“The Itsy Bitsy Bakeshop is a licensed domestic bakery, meaning that I bake out of my home,” she said.

Barr’s Itsy Bity Bakeshop cupcakes are only available through special order, but she’s teaming up with La Belle Maison to host a grand opening on August 7 from 11 a.m.- 12 p.m. for guests to sample the gourmet cupcake flavors she has to offer.

The bakery, whose virtual home is at http://itsybitsybakeshop.com, whips up colorful creations with equally creative names. Barr makes “Spring Fling” cupcakes which are lavender cake with white chocolate lavender ganache., “Dixie Bell” cakes which are a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, “Lemon-Meringue Better Than Pie” cupcakes which are lemon topped with curd and yes, meringue. Barr also offers classic variations on carrot, chocolate, and cinnamon cake, plus much more.

These decadent desserts cost $23 for a classic dozen or $13 for a mini dozen. Though currently without a storefront a present, Barr hopes to expand her culinary horizon.

“I am working on partnerships, like with La Belle Maison, and hope to have a location where people can stop by and purchase cupcakes directly from a store.”

For more information or to make an order, email orders@itsybitsybakeshop.com or call 503-385-1003.

Cupcake Love

"The wedding was just what I wanted and the cupcakes were a big hit.  They were fabulous!!!! Everyone really enjoyed them and thought they were the most delicious they'd ever eaten.  Several people wanted to take one or two home to a spouse.....and they usually don't eat cake!

"So thank you for helping make my day special.  Now my mother wants your cupcakes for her birthday in April.;-)"

- Kendall J.

"Itsy Bitsy Bakeshop truly did a custom job for us. My four year old got exactly what he asked for, even if it meant tweaking the order a little. He asked for mini chocolate cupcakes with a monster truck theme and Itsy Bitsy Bakeshop delivered--literally. We DEMOLISHED the dessert and ate it down to the GROUND...nothing better than homemade. Sweeeet job ;)"

- Kim K.

"The [cupcakes] for the birthday were a huge hit.  The baseballs were delicious and cute.  In fact, we took two of them (each upside down in a Styrofoam coffee cup) to Philadelphia and ate them 2 days later... still yummy... and the cake stayed moist."

- Mary L.
